Exploring the Enchanted Highway in North Dakota
May 8, 2025
After leaving Theodore Roosevelt National Park, we began our journey eastward toward home. Wanting to avoid a long couple days of driving without any stops, we did a bit of research and discovered one of North Dakota’s most unique roadside attractions - the Enchanted Highway.
The Enchanted Highway is a 32-mile stretch of two-lane road in southwestern North Dakota, running from Gladstone to Regent. Along the way, you’ll encounter a series of massive scrap metal sculptures. Each sculpture is larger than life and placed at intervals along the highway, making for a fun and unexpected road trip detour through the prairie.
We began our drive at Exit 72 off I-94, where you’ll find “Geese in Flight” which is a massive piece that was once recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest scrap metal sculpture. It’s a fantastic starting point for your Enchanted Highway adventure. At the final stop in Regent, we were lucky enough to briefly meet Gary Greff, whose passion for bringing tourism and art to rural North Dakota is inspiring.
