I had one goal beyond sight-seeing and eating on this Wednesday. My goal was to get more familiar with driving on the other side of the road so I set out for a day of activities that would take me down every type of road that Northern Ireland had to offer. I could not have picked a more beautiful day with temperatures in the upper fifties and sunny.
My first stop was going to test my fear of heights at Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. This was another day that I beat the tourists to a popular spot. I had a beautiful walk to the bridge along a scenic path as I considered what I was about to do. I put a brave face on and wrapped my camera cord tightly around my wrist so I could mark this great crossing with a selfie. I calmly walked across the bridge as it swayed ever so slightly and positioned myself mid-bridge for the picture. After trying to get a picture where I did not look frightened, I was proud of myself to make it across the bridge. This was before the realization hit me that I would have to cross back on the bridge. I am glad to report I made it in both directions and had a really enjoyable morning.
After visiting Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge I decided to drive up the coast toward Belfast. I never made it close to Belfast as I kept pulling onto side roads to see what I could find and to get more comfortable with the car. After driving down a winding one lane road I found Torr Head. Torr Head had an observation area at the top of the hill. There must not be an Irish equivalent to the ADA as there were no handrails or steps. I would find this to be the case in many of the areas off the main roads.
I made it as far as Cushendon and started to get hungry, so I headed back toward Bushmills to eat. Not before I saw the famous goat statue in Cushendon
