From Buncrana to Dungloe

Today is why I came to Ireland. I met some great people and saw some incredible things in County Donegal. After another great breakfast I found myself in a traffic jam as cattle was being moved across the road out of Buncrana. There were more cows than cars so there was not a long delay

Fanad Head Lighthouse

I picked my route today in the hope of getting a picture or two of the Fanad Head Lighthouse. To my surprise there was someone working at the lighthouse that offered to give me and another person a tour and we took him up on this generous offer. He told us he could not show us the inside of the building and that he was going home because the person with the key was sick. There are vacation apartments you can rent, and I only wish I had planned to stay.

Great Pollet Sea Arch

The person who gave me the tour at the Lighthouse gave me directions to Great Pollet Sea Arch. This is actually how I got there, and it is no wonder why it is not in Rick Steves book. I had to drive down a one lane road that turned from asphalt to rocks and finally grass. I then proceeded through a farmer's gate and down a path making sure I did not step on bird nests or anything else you find in farmer fields while Bessie gave me the evil eye and a moo. I then had to delicately climb between a barbed wire fence and down a steep hill until I reached a clearing. It sure was worth all that.

It looks from what I researched that they have made it even harder to get to see the Great Pollet Sea Arch. Landowners have put up fences and trespassing signs. I am glad I had the opportunity to make this visit.
